UPSC - INDIAN POLICE SERVICE LIMITED COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION, 2012

The Union Public Service Commission will hold a Limited Competitive Examination from 20th of May, 2012 for the purpose of filling vacancies in the Indian Police Service (IPS) in accordance with the Rules published by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 03rd March, 2012.

Eligibility conditions: 
(A) The candidates, who fulfill the following eligibility conditions would be eligible for this Examination:
(a) must be a citizen of India or he/she must belong to such category of persons as may be, from time to time, be notified in this behalf by the Central Government ;
(b) have completed 05 years of continuous and actual service as Deputy Superintendent of Police in States under State Police Service or Assistant Commandants in Central Para Military Forces (Central Reserve Police Service, Border Security Force, Indo Tibet Border Police, Central Industrial Security Force and Sashastra Seema Bal) or Officers of the Rank of Captain or Major or equivalent in the Armed Forces
(c) Should have an unblemished service record

(B) A candidate must not have attained the age of 35 years on the 1st August, 2012 i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1977. However, the upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable up to a maximum of 01 year for Other Backward Classes category candidates and 02 years for candidates belonging to a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe. The date of birth accepted by the Commission is that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognized by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University, which must be certified by the proper authority of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificate. No other document relating to age like horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts from Municipal Corporation, service records and the like will be accepted. The expression Matriculation/Higher Secondary Examination Certificate in this part of the instruction includes the alternative certificates mentioned above 

Scheme of the Written Examination: 
1. Paper I: Objective Type, 2 hours duration & 200 Marks
2. Paper II: Objective Type, 2 hours duration & 200 Marks
3. Paper III Language*: English Descriptive Type, 3 hours duration & 200 Marks
4. Paper IV Essay: Descriptive Type 3 hours duration 200 Marks
5. Paper V General Studies: Descriptive Type, 3 hours duration & 200 Marks
6. Interview: 200 Marks

Penalty for Wrong Answers: Candidates should note that there will be penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers Centre’s of Examination: The Examination will be held at the following Centre’s: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata and Nagpur 

How to Apply: Candidates must apply Online by using the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in. Candidates should ensure that all columns of the Online Application Form are filled in correctly. No correspondence will be entertained by the Commission from candidates to change any of the entries made in the application form. In case of NIL information, candidates are advised to clearly write NIL or ‘0’ in the relevant column. No column should be left blank. The printed copy of the Online Application Form with necessary certification done by the appropriate authority must reach the Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi – 110069
